Road kerbstone is either be cast-in-situ  or  pre-cast using concrete of grade M-20 generally used in Roads work or  as specified in the item description in the Schedule of Quantities of the Contract Agreement.

Kerb stone is made up of concrete is used to restrict the traffic/vehicle leaving the carriageway and is also used in the areas having the dangerous curves, for pedestrian islands, and to protect footpaths from vehicle to enter that area. Kerbstone varies from 300-450mm depending upon the place of usage.

Method of Installation of Kerbstone

Before the Installation of Kerbstone, Kerb stone shall be cast-in-situ / pre-cast using concrete of grade M-20. After the kerb stone is made then then to check whether excavation / removal of earth/ fill if any required before  laying 100 mm thick PCC base then  centering /Shuttering, moulding / chamfering / at the end when the kerb stone is laid the painting by Thermoplastic paint.

 The joint between the two kerb stones shall be filled up with cement mortar (1:4). The pre-cast

kerb stone as per approved drawing shall be cast within the project premises and cured for at least 15 days. Engineer shall have to make one tank for curing the stones.

First step for the installation of kerb stone is to check the floor finish level and Road level as per the drawing.

Second step is to check the road cross section drawing and see the alignment of the kerb stone, align the kerb stone with the help of thread (Suta) in one line and put the kebstone as per the level after excavation/ filling and PCC in the kerb stone area.

Third step is to fill the joint of the kerb stone with the cement mortar.

Point to remember before Rate Analysis for Cost of Kerbstone-

1. Kerb stone excavation, excavation, laying 100 mm thick PCC base, centring /

shuttering, moulding / chamfering and filling up the joints of kerb stone all to be considered during rate Analysis as they all are to be included in the rates generally no client pay extra for any of the above quoted work,

2. Kerb painting is to be included as a part of the cost and no extra payment will be paid for the same, but in some cases client consider this as a extra item read the tender condition before quoting the rates.

Mode of measurement of Kerbstone

Kerbstone is measured in Running Meter.
